Abstract
QUANTIFICATION OF ANTIOXIDANTS FROM SELECTED PLANT SPECIES OF MANGROVE REGION IN EAST GODAVARI ESTUARIES OF ANDHRA PRADESH, (INDIA)

The focus of the present research study is to screen some selective phytochemicals as antioxidants viz., Ascorbic acid, Total phenols, Flavanoids and Tocopherols for their quantification in various mangrove plant species viz) Avicennia marina, Avicennia officinalis and Acanthus illicifolius. Parts of the plant species like leaves, stem, flower and fruit are considered for antioxidant quantification. The plant extracts were obtained with 4% TCA, 80% Ethanol, Methanol and 0.1N H2SO4 to quantify Ascorbic acid, Total Phenolic Compounds, Flavanoids and Tocopherols respectively. Standard analytical techniques are employed for quantification of the antioxidants. The research results revealed that the ascorbic acid and total Phenolic compounds concentration is higher in the stem of Avicennia marina while the concentration flavanoids and Tocopherols is higher in the leaves of Acanthus illicifoius. The research study results indicate that these mangrove plant species can be considered as potential sources for isolation of antioxidants which find significant application in medicinal formulations
