Abstract
FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF FLOATING TABLET OF KETOROLAC TROMETHAMINE

The present study was undertaken to prolong the release of orally administered drug. The objective of the study was to formulate an oral floating tablet of ketorolac tromethamine using hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, Polyox WSR 303, gas generating agent sodium bicarbonate. The tablets were prepared by direct compression method. The formulations were evaluated for various physical parameters, floating lag time, swelling index and in vitro drug release. Floating tablets containing polyox WSR 303 gave best results compared to different viscosity polymer of HPMC. Among Polyox WSR formulations, R7 showed maximum floating time and gave slow and maximum drug release of ketorolac tromethamine spread over 12 hours. A floating matrix tablet of KET was successfully prepared by using HPMC K100M, HPMC K4M and Polyox WSR 303. The present study shows that polymer like Polyox WSR 303 in combination with sodium bicarbonate as a gas generating agent can be used to develop sustained release floating tablets of ketorolac tromethamine
