Abstract
ASSESS THE NEEDS OF PATIENTS WITH HEMATOLOGICAL CANCER WITH A VIEW TO PREPARE A CARE GUIDE IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL, KOCHI

A descriptive study was done to assess the needs of patients with hematological cancer with a view to prepare a care guide in a tertiary care hospital, Kochi. The study was conducted among 100 subjects who met the eligibility criteria using non probability convenience sampling technique. The demographic and clinical data were collected using self structured interview and data regarding needs of patients with hem w ‘ ’ ’ v by y .Th v h 00 bj j y h bj 5 5 % h reported their needs under social dimension as moderate. Low needs were felt by 64 (64%) of patients in physical dimension and 61 (61%) of the patients in psychological dimension followed by 43% in social dimension. A few percentage were satisfied with their needs (no unmet needs) in physical 22 (22%), psychological 17 (17%) and social 3 (3%) dimensions. There was a statistically significant association between needs of patients with hematological cancer in psychological dimension and number of previous admission in the hospital (P <0.05). Similarly needs of patients with hematological cancer in social dimension and level of education were statistically significant (P 0.05)
