ASSESSMENT OF RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH HYPERTENSION IN THE FUTURE DOCTORS IN BHOPAL

Context: A medical student is exposed to a lot of stress. This stress may leads to development of hypertension among these students and thus it needs to be timely diagnosed to prevent future development of disease like coronary heart disease and stroke.Aims:to find theout the prevalence of prehypertension and hypertension among undergraduate medical students and to study the risk factors. Methods and Material: It was a cross sectional study done along the medical students from LNMC and research centre, Bhopal. Blood pressure was measured and history of risk factors was asked. Results: One hundred and eighty students (100 male and 80 females) were having normal blood pressure. Others (20 male and 24 females) were pre hypertensive and hypertensive. Conclusions: Family history of hypertension was directly contributory factor to the development of hypertension. Regular exercise is having prophylactic effect.
