Abstract
EFFECTS AND SAFETY OF FIXED COMBINATION OF DORZOLAMIDE/TIMOLOL VERSUS LATANOPROST/TIMOLOL IN PRIMARY OPEN ANGLE GLAUCOMA OR OCULAR HYPERTENSION – A META ANALYSIS

To compare the efficacy and safety of fixed combination of Dorzolamide/Timolol (FCDT) and Latanoprost/Timolol (FCLT) for the treatment of Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertension. Meta analysis of randomized controlled trials. Systematic search of the literature published before 2015 was conducted in Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane library. Primary studies which compared the effects and efficacy of fixed combination of Dorzolamide/Timolol and Latanoprost/Timolol. Six randomized controlled trials with a total of 701 patients (350 patients in fixed combination of Dorzolamide/Timolol group, 351 in fixed combination of Latanoprost/Timolol group) were included in the Meta analysis. A continuous data was pooled for intra ocular pressure reduction, the Forest plot standardised mean difference/SMD was -0.58; 95% CI= -0.85-0.27; and a total overall effect P value= 0.44, since the overall P value was 0.44(i.e. > 0.05) it shows that the combined effect size was not statistically significant. Therefore, the fixed combination of Dorzolamide/Timolol and fixed combination of Latanoprost/Timolol has no significant effect in intra ocular pressure reduction. Fixed Combination LatanoprostTimolol (FCLT) was associated with equivalent efficacy in IOP lowering comparing with Fixed Combination DorzolamideTimolol (FCDT). However, FCLT was better tolerated than FCDT
