Abstract
SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLY (ASCORBICACID) BY RING OPENING POLYMERIZATION

The ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ascorbic acid (AsA) in the presence and absence of phthalic anhydride (PAH) as a co-monomer was carried out under inert atmosphere to avoid the unnecessary oxidation reaction in AsA segments. The homopolymer of AsA was synthesized under various experimental conditions like variation in [M], [I], time and temperature variation. Thus prepared homo and copolymers were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fileldemission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and anti microbial properties. The interaction between the solute and solvent was explained on the basis of ultrasonic parameters like ultrasonic velocity, compressibility and refractive index.
