Abstract
EFFECTIVENESS OF DIAPER RASH PREVENTIVE STRATEGIES ON KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICE OF PRIMI MOTHERS AND OCCURRENCE OF DIAPER RASH AMONG THEIR NEWBORN

Diaper dermatitis is one of the common skin problems among newborn, that needs careful evaluation, as unattended diaper rash may adversely affect the genitourinary system and increase morbidity among the newborns. Assess the effectiveness of diaper rash preventive strategies on knowledge, practice regarding diaper rash among primi mothers and occurrence of diaper rash among newborns. Determine the effectiveness of diaper rash preventive strategies on practice of diaper changing technique. The research design adopted for this study was experimental Pre-test post-test control group design.. 60 primi mothers posted for elective caesarean delivery at Sri Ramachandra Hospital were the participant randomly allocated 30 each study and control group. One -to- one teaching with laptop and demonstration of diaper changing was taught to study group. Data collection tools consisted of Background variable, questionnaire for knowledge , Checklist for practice, and Neonatal skin condition scale .Pre-test was conducted one day prior to the elective caesarean delivery, post-test on 5th postnatal day. Data was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. There was significant increase in the knowledge and practice at the level of p value p<0.001 for the study group after receiving diaper rash preventive strategies, regarding occurrence of diaper rash study group newborns experienced lesser degree of diaper rash than the control group even though there is no statistical significance between the study and the control group. Diaper rash preventive strategies facilitates knowledge acquisition, improves practices, prevent the diaper rash among newborn.
