Abstract
PREDICTION OF HANDEDNESS BASED ON PREFERRED EYE IN YOUNG ADULTS OF SOUTH EASTERN NIGERIA SCHOOLING IN IMO STATE UNIVERSITY, OWERRI

This study investigated the relationship between an individuals preferred eye and his or her handedness with a view to predicting one’s handedness once his or her preferred eye is known. The study which was done in Imo State University Owerri had its subjects drawn randomly from students whose origins were of the five states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo which constitute the South Eastern Nigeria. Questionnaires, verbal interviews, observations and tests/measurements were the research instruments used. Determination of the subjects’ preferred eyes was done in the Optometry clinic of the university while their handedness was determined in the Anatomy and Neurobiology department. The results showed that 73.5% of the students were right eyed while 26.5% of them had preference for left eye. Most of the righteyed were found right handed even as a statistically high percentage of the left eyed individuals were also left handed
