Abstract

Introduction: Diaphragmatic hernias are often due to maldevelopment of components of diaphragm and secondary to pulmonary hypoplasia. They include postero - lateral diaphragmatic hernia (bochdalek), Morgagni Hernia and hiatus Hernia. Most of the congenital postero lateral diaphragmatic hernia are often detected antenatally and present in new born period. Adult presentation is extremely rare. Hence this is an attempt to record a postero - lateral diaphragmatic hernia in adult. Case Details: A twenty two years old well-built healthy adult presented with chronic constipation and vague abdominal pain. Examination showed presence of bowel sounds in the chest and heart shifted right side. Chest radiography and CECT scan confirmed postero - lateral diaphragmatic hernia. Trans abdominal reduction and repair done. Conclusion: Rare case of left sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia in an adult successfully treated by transabdominal repair is being reported
