Cholelethiasis due to gallstones is the most common biliary pathology with a prevalence of 10 – 15%. It is asymptomatic in more than 80% of cases and symptomatic in approximately 1to 2% of patients. Aim to know the incidence of asymptomatic gallstones in the general population in post mortem. The material for the present study comprises of 300 autopsy cases that are subjected to post-mortem in the mortuary for a period of 2 years. The cases are confirmed asymptomatic by histopathological examination of gallbladders with gallstones by considering criteria. The highest incidence of gallstones was in 5th decade and was more common in females. The male to female ratio was 1: 2.37. 81.5% of gallstones were asymptomatic. Incidence of gallstones in the general population in present study was 9%. Asymptomatic gallstones were 81.5%.
