Abstract

Angiogenesis plays an important role in the provision and continuing of tissue perfusion .Myocardial ischemia and hypoxia which often play a role in the etiology of cardiac rhythm disorders, contributes to coronary collateral vessel formation by providing the activation of angiogenesis. These collaterals play an important role in the prognosis of the coronary artery disease. Chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model is a model used to determine the effects of drugs on angiogenesis .In this model, vascular structures on CAM are examined under a stereoscopic microscope after the administration of drugs on the chick embryo CAM and incubation. In this study, the effects of different antiarrhythmic drugs which are often used in the treatment of arrhythmia on angiogenesis in the CAM model were investigated. In this study, metoprolol , amiodarone , diltiazem and digoxin doses of 10-5 M and 10-6 M, 10-6 M were compared with proven antiangiogenic effect of bevacizumab, and with each other(among themselves). For each drug dose twenty fertilized chicken eggs were used. Digoxin dose of 10-5 M and 10-6 M, compared with other drugs, and its high doses the antiangiogenic effects were statistically significant. The apparent antiangiogenic effect was not observed in other drug groups. The antiarrhythmic drug of choice, compared with digoxin and other drugs used in the study, since they are less of antiangiogenic properties, we believe that priority could be in clinical use.
