Abstract

Endometrial stromal neoplasms are rare uterine malignancies that artifice pathologists because its pathogenesis is largely debated. Latest WHO classification recognized 3 major categories: (1) Endometrial Stromal Nodule(ESN), (2) Low Grade Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma(LG-ESS) & (3)Undifferentiated Endometrial Sarcoma(UES). This study aims at reviewing histopathological features of various endometrial stromal tumours with various clinical presentation. In this retrospective study, histopathological findings of 21 already diagnosed cases of endometrial stromal tumors in Department of Pathology, Silchar Medical College and hospital, were reviewed. Data of clinical findings were collected from requisition form provided with specimen. There were 11 cases of ESN, 6 cases of LG-ESS and 4 cases of UES. Patient ranged in age from 20-79 years. Similar symptoms of vaginal bleeding (58% cases) or pelvic pain (25% cases) were seen in all 3 types. 14% of cases were asymptomatic. Though gross and microscopic features can aid in the distinction of non-neoplastic and neoplastic mesenchymal neoplasms, endometrial stromal tumors are among the most common uterine tumors with varied clinical presentation causes diagnostic dilemma both for pathologists and clinicians.
