Changes in liver function postoperatively depends upon variety of factors such as previous status of liver, drug therapy, surgical pathology, operative procedure, perioperative complications and postoperative follow up. 50 patients posted for either elective operative procedures under general anaesthesia with upper or lower abdominal incisions were investigated for liver functions. Liver function tests carried out preoperatively as well as postoperatively to determine whether there are any effects of duration of operative procedure, type of operative procedure, type of operative incision, appropriate blood lo ss and anaesthesia technique on liver function
