Abstract

ECT has been demonstrated to be an effective and safe treatment for many psychiatric disorders. ECT has been used continuously for more than 50 years. It has achieved this longevity because when administered properly for right illness, it can help as much as or more than any other treatment. The medical and paramedical professionals though have literal knowledge on ECT but practically only few of them are efficient. Psychiatric nurses are commonly involved in caring for patients who are receiving Electro Convulsive therapy. Thus it is essential that all nurses understand how these treatment modalities work and understand what nursing care enhances their effectiveness. A sample of 50 B.Sc (N) students in the study group were selected by purposive sampling and the effectiveness of VATM was assessed by pre test and post test knowledge scores through multiple choice questionnaires.
