Abstract
CORROSION RESISTANCE OF FE40AL ALLOYED WITH LI, CU AND AG IN HUMAN BODY SIMULATED SOLUTION

The effect of the addition 3% of Cu, Li or Ag in the corrosion resistance of Fe40Al intermetallic alloy in Hank´s solution has been evaluated with potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements has been carried out. Results have shown that the corrosion resistance of Fe40Al alloy was improved with the addition of either Li or Cu but it decreased when Ag was added due to the establishment of a porous passive layer. EIS spectra depicted predominantly a capacitive behavior of the formed passive formed film whose protectiveness improved or decreased according to the element added to the alloy.
