Arthroscopic surgery has moved from an in-patient setting to an outpatient setting, post arthroscopic pain and swelling interferes with the rehabilitation. Aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of cryotherapy on pain and swelling after the arthroscopic surgery. A pretest posttest design was used. The study group received the cryotherapy during the first and second postoperative day. The study result shows, the mean pain score of the experimental group decreased from 4.90 to 2.50 (p=0.0005) and in the control group 4.85 to 3.70 (p=0.04). The reduction in the mean value of swelling from 35.54 to 31.39 (p=0.007) in the study group and 34.71 to 34.62 in the control group. It shows cryotherapy was significantly effective in reducing post arthroscopic pain and swelling.
