Abstract

Anopheles dthali patton 1905 act as malaria vector in some parts of the world. This species has been suspected as a vector of malaria in Saudi Arabia, and many of neighboring countries of Sudan. In June 2011, during epidemiological and entomological study in Merowe dam areas the authors noticed that an unusual Anopheles mosquito larvae breeding in the water leaking from drinking water pipes in Merowe city surrounded with vegetation. Anopheles arabiensis and Culex quinquefasciatus were found in the same breeding place. These larvae were collected and reared up to adult then identified using standard identification keys. Identical An.dthali Patton 1905 adult mosquito species appeared after applying the standard identification software keys. This species have not been recognized in this area before and no previous records at Northern state at all. This finding might complicate the malaria control efforts in the region
