Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess drug prescribing and dispensing practices in the outpatient daily pharmacy of AlHussein hospital in the Royal Medical Services (RMS). A quantitative study of 1000 prescriptions was conducted to determine the prescribing and dispensing patterns at outpatient daily pharmacy of Al-Hussein hospital in the (RMS). The average number of drugs per prescription was 2.31 the percentage of prescriptions with an antibiotic or injection prescribed was (57.7% - 4.7 %) respectively on the other hand, the percentage of prescriptions with diagnosis written was 62.3%, while the percentage of prescriptions with dosage written was 88.3%. Based on the result of this study more comprehensive studies are recommended to be done at regular intervals. The prescribing and dispensing practices in our health facility were shown a small deviation from WHO standards. Better training and supportive supervision is needed.
