A 14-months-old male German Shepherd dog positive for haemoprotozoon infection by Babesia spp. was presented at Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Anand with a history of increased levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN, 68 mg/dl) and serum creatinine (SCr, 03.10 mg/dl) despite being treated for canine babesiosis. A detailed diagnostic approach including anamnesis, clinical examination, blood smear examination, haematobiochemistry, ultrasonography and urinalysis was initiated in order to rule out underlying urinary dysfunction. The case was confirmed to be of acute renal failure (ARF) associated with canine babesiosis as supported by serum biochemical parameters and nephrosonogram. Therapeutic management was initiated as per the guidelines provided by International Renal Interest Society (IRIS). Details of the therapeutic management of acute renal failure are discussed in the present study. Dog recovered on 10th day post-treatment as evidenced by improvement in general clinical status and normal levels of serological indicators post-treatment.
