Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. Airway hyperresponsiveness, inflammation and remodeling is the typical characteristics of the disease. Currently, the development and mechanism of a disease has not been fully elucidated. Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) is an important second messenger in- vivo. A variety of pathophysiological processes including calcium signaling, inflammation, cell growth and differentiation, and apoptosis is involved in the regulation of human metabolism. For a long time, protein kinase A (PKA) was considered to be the only signaling molecule and now the cAMP is another molecule which mediated biological effect. However, the new target molecule exchange protein directly activated cAMP(Epac) have found to break this statement. Numerous studies confirm,Epac may be used alone or in combination with PKA. cAMP plays a variety of biological effects. In this paper, the role of Epac in the occurrence and development of bronchial asthma is reviewed and also providing a theoretical basis for the study of new asthma treatments
