The prevalence rate of hypertension (HTN) ranges from between 3% and 18% depending on the age, gender, ethnicity and body size of the population studied. In India, about 25% adults in cities 10% in rural areas suffer from HTN. The overall incidence of HTN in India estimated to be 66 million. Silicosis refers to the formation of small, typically round nodules in the lungs of people exposed to crystalline silica dust. Silicosis is a potentially fatal, irreversible, progressive and untreatable fibrotic lung disease caused by prolonged inhalation and deposition of respirable crystalline silica. Aim of our study is to assess the lipid profile in newly diagnosed cases of primary hyper tension in granite workers. A total of 210 granite workers are being selected and their BP was recorded. Forty seven of them had HTN and their lipid profile was evaluated and compared with Forty seven age and sex matched healthy controls. Magnitude of HTN was high (22%) and the lipid profile showed significant variation in granite workers when compared to healthy controls. Need to detect subjects with HTN in the granite workers
