Background : Removable Dentures are believed to have surfaced as one of the mode of treatment for replacing missing teeth. Denture base act as an intermediary between the teeth and the jaw and has to transfer all or part of the masticatory forces to the sub adjacent tissues. Transverse strength of denture base material is an important property for longevity and superior clinical performance of the denture .Aim & Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the transverse strength of compression molded heat cure acrylic denture base resin and polyamide (Nylon) denture base material. Materials and method: Two denture base materials, compression molded heat cure acrylic denture base resin(Lucitone 199) and polyamide (nylon) denture base material (lucitone FRS) were used for evaluating transverse strength. Metal dies of dimensions 65mm x 10mm x 3mm were fabricated which were invested to prepare heat cure acrylic denture base resin specimens by compression moulding technique and, injection mouding technique was used to make specimens of polyamide (lucitone FRS) specimens under strict quality control. Thus total 20 specimens were fabricated, with 10 specimens of each type of denture base material. These specimens were stored in artificial saliva at 37oC in an incubator for 7 days. Transverse strength of specimens was measured using 3 point bending test. Specimens were loaded until fracture and values were recorded in Newtons. Stastical analysis of the data was done using student t- test.Result: Compression molded heat cure acrylic denture base resin (Lucitone 199) showed higher transverse strength as compared to Polyamide denture base material (Lucitone FRS). Compression molded heat cure acrylic denture base material showed mean transverse strength (N/mm2) value of 87.07 N/mm2 and a standard deviation of 4.139 whereas polyamide denture base materials (Lucitone FRS) showed mean transverse strength (N/mm2) value of 66.37 N/mm2 and a standard deviation of 3.558. No significant difference in transverse strength was found between the denture base materials. (p> 0.05).Conclusion : Within the limitations of this study it was concluded that Compression molded heat cure acrylic denture base resin (Lucitone 199) showed higher transverse strength as compared to Polyamide denture base material (Lucitone FRS) but this difference was statistically non significant
