study was to assess the association of obesity with the high level of serum uric acid, as an indicator for chronic diseases. Data
regarding obesity were collected as a part of an awareness campaign included 2093 volunteers. The overall prevalence of
obesity amongst study subjects was 81.3%. The prevalence of males was 75% and females were 85.8%. Increased weight
categories were strongly linked to female and this was found to be statistically (P = 0.000). High serum uric acid values were
demonstrated among 227 (7.75%) subjects, of whom 185(81.5%) were males and 42 (18.5%) were females. Level of serum
uric acid is relatively elevated with elevation of BMI and it is more evident among male, rather than females.
<Email>elasbali2000@hotmail.co.uk</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>6</issue><year>2014</year><keyword>Obesity,BMI,Uric acid</keyword><AUTHORS>Abdelbaset Mohamed Elasbali</AUTHORS><afflication>College of Applied Medical Sciences, University of Hail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.</afflication></Article></Articles>
